KYLIE COSMETICS
As a well-established brand in the makeup industry, Kylie Cosmetics has built a reputation for quality products over the years. The packaging of the products is sleek and stylish, complete with cute stickers and personalized touches that reflect Kylie Jenner’s vibrant personality. However, despite the appealing packaging, I encountered some issues with the products that left me feeling a bit frustrated.
One of the standout products from my testing was the eyeshadow palette. The colors were rich and pigmented, blending effortlessly on my eyelids. However, I noticed that there was some fallout during application, which required extra clean-up. Additionally, the lipstick I tried was a beautiful shade, but it felt a bit drying on my lips after prolonged wear.
SKKN BY KIM
On the other hand, SKKN BY KIM, Kim Kardashian’s debut skincare line, offers a more neutral and sophisticated packaging compared to Kylie Cosmetics. The minimalist design gives off a luxurious vibe, which is fitting for a skincare brand. I was excited to try out the skincare products, as Kim is known for her flawless complexion.
The SKKN BY KIM products impressed me with their innovative formulations and results. The facial serum left my skin feeling hydrated and rejuvenated, while the moisturizer provided a smooth base for makeup application. I also appreciated the attention to detail in the packaging, which added a touch of elegance to the overall experience.
Eyeshadows Comparison
Today we will be comparing the eyeshadows, lipsticks, and lip liners from KYLIE COSMETICS and SKKN BY KIM. Let’s start with Miss Kimberly’s classic mattes eyeshadow palette. The minimalistic packaging caught my eye, but I was surprised by how small the palette was for the price point of $50. The pans are tiny, making the overall size of the palette much smaller than I expected.
On the other hand, Kylies classic matte eye palette is even smaller, which was a shock to me. The plastic packaging of Kylie’s palette contrasts with Kim’s cardboard packaging. Despite being priced at $32, the size of the palette makes me consider it on the higher end of the price range.
Lipsticks and Lip Liners Comparison
As I tested these shadows, I couldn’t help but compare the shipping policies of the two brands. KYLIE COSMETICS offers free shipping over $40, while SKKN BY KIM provides free shipping over $100. The shipping times were also different, with SKKN BY KIM promising 7 to 10 days and KYLIE COSMETICS offering a quicker 3 to 5 days delivery window.
Testing KYLIE COSMETICS
I sat down to film this video thinking. I had all my makeup and I opened my Kylie box to realize it was only part of what I had ordered. I have $600 worth of Kylie Cosmetics that I ordered almost a month ago that they just never shipped um yeah, so I’m pretty annoyed about that. I sent them an email and asked them for a refund, although both of these brands do no refunds, no returns.
Testing SKKN BY KIM
If you watch my other channel Hang with H Hope Scope, you might remember my Skims Swarovski review. I ordered so much stuff from that collection and the same thing happened. They sent me part of my order and just like didn’t send me the rest of it for like a month until I reached out – and I was like – Hey where’s my order and they were like oopsy. We don’t have that item, so we just didn’t send it and didn’t tell you – and I was like – am I overreacting that Im so bugged by this?
Brand Loyalty?
But you guys backed me up in that comment section. So the fact this is the second time this has happened. Two times in a row with a Kardashian brand that they just keep my money and don’t. Send me my stuff. I don’t know guys: Ive been reviewing Kardashian stuff for many years Im so annoyed.
Initial Comparison
As I began my comparison between KYLIE COSMETICS and SKKN BY KIM, I quickly realized that I didn’t have all the products I had hoped for. Despite this, I made a trip to Ulta to gather what I could for this makeup test.
Eye Shadow Comparison
Starting with the eyeshadow, I applied Kylie on one side and Kim on the other. The base from Kylie applied beautifully, providing a great starting point for the eyeshadow. On the other hand, Kim’s base lacked the same richness in pigment, making it slightly less impressive.
Color Undertones
Examining the shades further, I noticed that Kylie’s eyeshadow had a neutral cream shade, while Kim’s leaned more towards a pink undertone. This difference in undertones gave Kylie’s eyeshadow an edge in terms of versatility and blendability.
Pigmentation and Blending
When it came to pigment and blending, Kylie’s eyeshadow outperformed Kim’s. The Kylie shade blended effortlessly and had a rich color payoff, while Kim’s eyeshadow lacked the same intensity and required more layering for a desired look.
Comparing Pigmentation and Blendability
Okay, so I’m not going to lie, I’m liking the Kylie palette a little bit better, which makes me mad because I’m angry at Kylie Cosmetics right now. That wasn’t supposed to happen. Once they’re on, they look very similar. But I think you can see that Kylie is just a little more pigmented. We’re going to deepen it up with Cedar, this kind of warmer brown is amazing. Kims number six is pretty similar, maybe I’ll mix a little bit of six and 11. The skin number one is slightly more patchy and not blending quite as well.
Comparison of Dark Colors
Well, alright, let’s try on the very ends a nice dark color like chocolate from Kylie Cosmetics. Oh, wow, it’s good. Let’s see how number 12 from SKKN compares. It’s almost identical in the pan, but it’s like 75% of the pigment of Kylie. So, whether I like it or not, I think Kylie Cosmetics is a slightly better product.
Unexpected Results on Skin
Oh my gosh and voila on the skin, that didn’t happen at all with Kylie. I didn’t want to give Kylie the win, but it is the better palette, it is the better price point. Yeah, I think Kims does have more makeup. Still, I could pull a Sopia and dump them all out and measure them. Should I make a Franken Kardashian makeup palette? I might do it.
Comparing Makeup Quantities
Cuz Im really curious, who has more makeup in their palette. The ounces and grams are actually on the packaging. Skin has 12 1.5 G of makeup in it, and Kylie has 10.9 G of makeup in it, so the skin one does have a little bit more. I dont know if its enough to mark it up to 50, but one comment that I did see a lot on the skin Instagram comment: section is a lot of people were comparing Kims eyeshadow palette to the makeup by Mario eyeshadow palette. I went to the website and checked it out and they are nearly identical, so I had to get one of those to side by side.
Skin vs. Mario Eyeshadow Palettes
Also, this is lit. Barely okay theyre not owned by the same company, but you cannot tell me that this is not the same manufacturer. I can almost guarantee that the same factory makes all of this okay, Kylie and Mario wasnt expecting that but okay and then the actual Shades, though heres skin heres, Mario, oh its similar. I see I see what theyre saying now the whole color story lines up very similarly interesting. Okay lets Swatch a couple colors, so Marios Kims, very similar lets, do a middle one like this theres, Mario skin, very similar. All right lets do the darkest Brown here theres. Mario theres skin um, a lot of these are close, both color wise and just like formula wise. You guys werent wrong.
Testing Against Kylie Cosmetics
Okay, we got to test it against the Kylie, now cuz theyre, even more similar, theres, Kylies, rust and heres.
Comparing Eyeshadows
The rusty Mario Marios is a little better honestly lets do camel from kyy versus this top one from Mario. That ones really similar o lets. Do the black theres Kylies, oh heres, Mario, oh thats, an impressive black! All right lets test skins black just for fun too, and heres skin kind of right in the middle okay, after testing those blacks, I decided a i needed some eyes shadow on the bottoms of my eyes and B. I want to do something with the black. So, Im adding some black to the lower lash line and then Im going to smudge it out with some chocolate from both Kylie and Kim and heres. The final eyeshadow look from both sides: wow that was interesting.
Pricing and Shopping Experience
Okay, Kylies is still the cheapest, though at 32 makeup. By Marios is still 50, so if you really dont want to buy from Kylie, though I mean all right moving on to lips as far as the shopping experience online goes, I would say they have like pretty similar websites, just format, wise and ease of navigation and Stuff once again, that probably has a lot to do with their under the same company. Lipsticks lets talk price difference first, so overall, Kylie Cosmetics, price range is 13 to 36 per product and Kim is 22 to 50 per product. But I also feel like its important to talk about who theyre marketing to Kylie launched in 2014 and primarily targeted, like teens girls in their early 20s, and I still feel like thats, who theyre targeting Kims brand, feels a little bit more mature.
Demographic and Price Point
SKKN by Kim has that Millennial minimalistic vibe, targeting those in their 30s and 40s. Anyone can buy their products, but discussing the demographic is important as it influences price points. On the other hand, Kylie Cosmetics has a wider audience with quirky shade names like “Irreplaceable” and “Up to No Good.”
Packaging
Comparing the packaging, SKKN by Kim’s lipsticks turned out to be long and skinny, while Kylie’s had the traditional lipstick design with her signature branding. It seems like you get more product with Kylie’s lipstick compared to SKKN by Kim’s.
Product Comparison
I tried to select similar shades from both brands to compare. SKKN by Kim launched 10 different nude shades in both lipstick and lip liner, while I chose five of them for testing. The lipsticks from SKKN by Kim had a shiny finish, while Kylie’s were more matte.
Swatches
Starting with SKKN by Kim’s nude number three, the shade…
Testing the Lipsticks
It looks like, after like a few passes and lets, compare it with up to no good from Kylie Cosmetics, huh. I dont know I mean it depends on what youre going for Kim does advertise hers as like a soft color nude, seven from skin its an interesting formula so far, Im not loving how it comes off but well see on my actual lips, also, okay and then Kylie, you could never kind of similar in color, yeah Kylies are just smoother.
Comparing the Formulas
Oh, I dont know skin inin nude number two man just like takes a couple versus Kylie Irreplaceable wo. Those ones are really similar. I mean skin is definitely matte once its out of the tube for sure, okay, so thats seven over here on the skin side. Okay, it goes better on the lips than it did on my hand for sure, but definitely not a a one coat situation.
Texture and Application
You can never Kylie Cosmetics over here I dont know the Kylie Cosmetics. One is just like butterier. Is that a word, and I just like kind of the traditional shape of a lipstick more than this flat one, but all right. Moving on to lip liner, by the way, if you are enjoying this video, I would love for you to subscribe to the channel so that you dont miss future ones.
Exploring the Lip Liners
Lip liner here is our skin by Kim packaging kind of, like everything else, just very minimal, and she went with a good oldfashioned lip pencil like that, you sharpen and stuff I will say I really like lip liner pencils like this: its kind of a pain to Have to sharpen them, but I think they do a better job than these ones like Kylies, that you like roll it didnt show up so were comparing this one to Kims pencil okay, so I got five Shades in this as well and, like I said I was Able to match them up really easily with the same lip color, whereas Kylies I just kind of had to like guess, which one looked like the lipstick, okay, so Im going to be using sister sister on the Kylie side.
Lip Liner Comparison
Some of the girls on Tik Tok go like so overlined I’ve never done that. Yeah, on camera looks good, but real life, not so much. Ooh, alright. The skin side liner is 22 and the Kylie one is 16. So, like I just I’m having a hard time seeing why it’s 6 more. This liner actually doesn’t twist to get more out, which confused a lot of people. It requires a sharpener to sharpen, which is not the best design and the easiest thing to sharpen. So I don’t know how I feel about it.
Lipstick Comparison
Ok, there’s our final lipstick looks. I don’t know, you tell me if you think one looks better than the other. All right, I’ll see you in a few hours for our wear test results. It’s been 5 or 6 hours. I got some work done, had some dinner, and now it’s time to reveal how it all held up. As far as the eyeshadow goes, I’m honestly not noticing any creasing or fading on either of them. But overall, the Kylie Cosmetics one just went on better and more pigmented.
Overlining Lipliner
I probably shouldn’t have overlined the Kylie quite so much because that did kind of give it an advantage. As far as the actual lipstick, I feel like it wore off at exactly the same rate.
Quality of Lipliner
To be honest, the Kim’s liner definitely came off in the corners more than the Kylie. However, I do like how the SKKN BY KIM one applied better and it’s a lot easier to sharpen, so that’s the winner there.
Customer Service Experience
On my Kylie Cosmetics order that ghosted me, they actually did respond to my email in just 2 hours. They said, “Thank you for contacting us. So sorry you haven’t received your shipment. Upon checking, it appears that the carrier lost your shipment during transit. We are happy to replace or refund right away. Thank you and look forward to your response.”
After testing both KYLIE COSMETICS and SKKN BY KIM, I must say that each brand has its own strengths and weaknesses. While Kylie Cosmetics excels in vibrant colors and trendy packaging, SKKN BY KIM offers sophisticated skincare solutions with a focus on quality ingredients.
It’s important to remember that personal preferences and skin types play a significant role in determining which brand suits you best. Ultimately, both Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian have successfully carved out their niches in the beauty industry, catering to a diverse audience with their unique offerings.
The colors of the eyeshadows from both brands were pretty similar, although not exact matches. Testing them against each other was a fun experiment, but the shipping drama added an interesting twist to the comparison. In the end, both brands offer quality products with their own unique packaging and pricing strategies.
I don’t know, what do you think? Should we give them the benefit of the doubt? They’re going to refund me either way, but it’s just a bummer that it happened twice in a row. Well, make sure to check out all of my other celebrity reviews or my unrealistic beauty products.
