The Popular K-Beauty Moisturizer
One moisturizer that has gained immense popularity among skincare enthusiasts is the K-Beauty favorite. This product has captured the hearts of many, including myself. It’s the kind of moisturizer that you feel secure having on hand for those times when your skin needs some extra care.
Welcome to 2024!
As we step into the new year, let’s kick-start it by discussing the best moisturizers of 2023. I apologize for missing last week’s video as I was unwell on New Year’s Day. So, please excuse my slightly sick-sounding voice; I’m still recovering, but let’s focus on the exciting topic at hand.
The Importance of Moisturizers
Before we dive into the list, let’s reiterate the significance of moisturizers in your skincare routine. Moisturizers play a vital role in hydrating and nourishing the skin. They help maintain its moisture balance, prevent dryness, and leave your skin feeling smooth and plump.
Finding the Perfect Match
As someone with dry and dehydrated skin, I understand the struggle of finding the right moisturizer. Living in Melvin, Australia, where the climate tends to be more on the dehydrating side, made this search even more crucial. However, after much exploration, I have discovered some fantastic options that suit my skin type perfectly.
It’s worth mentioning that all the moisturizers I’ll be discussing in this video are fragrance-free. While fragrance is not a dealbreaker for me, I found it interesting that all my top picks happened to be free of any added scents. Now, let’s jump right into the list of the best moisturizers of 2023!

The Minon Amino Moist Charge Milk: A Japanese Skincare Favorite
The Minon Amino Moist Charge Milk is a moisturizer that has gained immense popularity in Japan. It has been winning awards since 2015 and was officially inducted into the Hall of Fame for beauty products in 2018. This product is the bestseller from the brand Minon, which is known for catering to individuals with sensitive skin.
A Skin-Healing Powerhouse
One of the key features of the Minon Amino Moist Charge Milk is its inclusion of 11 types of amino acids. These amino acids play a crucial role in healing the skin barrier and promoting a healthy skin environment. For those with sensitive skin, this moisturizer offers a simple and effective solution, as it is free from many irritants commonly found in skincare products.
An Emulsion-Type Moisturizer
The Minon Amino Moist Charge Milk falls under the category of emulsion-type moisturizers. This means that it takes the form of a lightweight milk or lotion, which is highly popular and common in Japan. Unlike traditional cream moisturizers, emulsion-type moisturizers offer a lighter and more breathable feel. They are especially suitable for use in the morning, providing hydration without weighing down the skin.
A Perfect Canvas for Makeup
One of the advantages of using the Minon Amino Moist Charge Milk is its ability to work beautifully underneath makeup. Its light consistency makes it an ideal base for foundation, allowing for smoother application and a more natural finish. By providing a hydrating layer without excess oil or heaviness, this moisturizer ensures that makeup stays in place throughout the day.
The Rise of K-Beauty and J-Beauty
In recent years, both K-Beauty (Korean skincare) and J-Beauty (Japanese skincare) have gained significant recognition worldwide. These skincare regimens focus on a holistic approach to skincare, prioritizing hydration, nourishment, and maintaining a healthy skin barrier. The Minon Amino Moist Charge Milk perfectly embodies the essence of J-Beauty, offering a gentle and effective solution for sensitive skin.
The Texture of This Emulsion
The thing I did like about this one compared to other emulsions that I’ve even tried from Japan is its texture. When it first comes out, as you can see, I’m almost out of it. I’ve got a backup coming in the mail. It is actually quite solid; it doesn’t run down.
A Lightweight Creamy Formula
A lot of emulsions do tend to be a bit more lotiony, so they will run down your skin if you apply it like this, but this one is quite solid. So it has that body to it, yet it is so lightweight and creamy. It absorbs into the skin so, so well.
Perfect for In-Between Seasons
I had been using this moisturizer for about a month, or so during the springtime – and it was that perfect kind of in-between something too lightweight, like a gel cream, versus a heavy cream. It provided just the right amount of hydration for my skin during the transitioning seasons.
A Favorite for My Partner
Then I went to Japan, which I did not take this with me, and by the time I came back, Logan, my partner, had essentially finished this off by himself; he loved it so much. It was obviously in a pump, so it was really easy for him to use. He said he was using it non-stop in the morning.
An Inclusion in the “Best of” Video
I was like, “Is it okay if I finish this?” He replied, “I mean, I’m going to include it in a best of video, so it’s okay.”
Korean Moisturizers: Purple Complex Moisture Bell Balancing Soothing Cream
The first moisturizer on our list of the best moisturizers of 2023 is the Purple Complex Moisture Bell Balancing Soothing Cream from the Korean brand, Numbers. I have personally been a fan of Numbers for many years now, and they continue to impress me.
This particular moisturizer is suitable for all skin types, including acne-prone and combination skin. It focuses on achieving the perfect balance between water and oil in our skin, which is essential for a healthy complexion.
The Purple Complex in this moisturizer is made up of various naturally derived ingredients such as purple carrot, red cabbage, eggplant, beet, blueberry, and azulene. These ingredients not only provide hydration but also help to soothe any irritation on the skin.
Japanese Moisturizers: Medicated Moisture Essence Cream
Moving on to Japanese moisturizers, one of the top picks for 2023 is the Medicated Moisture Essence Cream. Japanese beauty products, known as J-beauty, are highly popular for their effective and innovative formulas.
This particular moisturizer stands out due to its medicated properties. It contains active ingredients that target specific skin concerns such as dryness, dullness, and fine lines. The essence-like texture absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving it plump and hydrated.
The Medicated Moisture Essence Cream also contains hyaluronic acid and collagen, which are known for their moisturizing and anti-aging properties. These ingredients help to improve the skin’s elasticity and overall appearance.
Hybrid Moisturizer: Essence-in-oil Moisturizing Cream
In recent years, hybrid moisturizers have gained popularity for their dual-action formulas. One such moisturizer that has caught everyone’s attention is the Essence-in-oil Moisturizing Cream.
This hybrid moisturizer combines the benefits of both an essence and an oil to provide intense hydration and nourishment to the skin. It is enriched with botanical extracts and essential oils that penetrate deep into the skin, leaving it soft and supple.
The Essence-in-oil Moisturizing Cream is suitable for all skin types and can be used both day and night. Its lightweight texture ensures that it does not feel heavy on the skin, making it perfect for those who prefer a lightweight moisturizer.
K-Beauty Moisturizer: Hyaluronic Acid and Cantella Atica
This moisturizer is formulated with hyaluronic acid, a hydrating ingredient, and cantella atica, a calming and soothing ingredient. It aims to create a balance between oil and water in the skin, which is something many of us desire. I found this moisturizer perfect for daytime use, especially in winter, as it provides a bit more moisture compared to a gel cream moisturizer. However, if you have extremely dry skin like me, it may not be moisturizing enough for nighttime use during winter. My partner, who has combination skin, also loved this moisturizer. We have already finished one tube of it and opened a second one. It comes in a generous 100ml size, which is the largest among the moisturizers I have discussed. Overall, I believe it is suitable for all skin types. It is particularly recommended for those with acne-prone and combination skin.
K-Beauty Moisturizer: Estra Ataria 365 Cream
The Estra Ataria 365 Cream is already well-loved by many, and now I understand why. I have also joined the fan club for this moisturizer.
The Beauty of K-Beauty Moisturizers
I know this has an absolute cult following in Korea and after I used it, like I get it, it is a beautiful moisturizer. I personally started using it during the winter time in Australia, which would have been like 6 months ago. A light enough texture that it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. But it does really feel nourishing and if you have seen the formula this is another one that I have a backup of coming cuz.
The Unique Formula
I kind of used it up before I filmed my best of videos, but if you see the texture of it, it actually has these tiny little dots, which is basically an encapsulated formula which helps to keep the ingredients fresh and to also kind of time release it onto your skin, when you are applying so that’s something that’s um, definitely unique about this moisturizer, which I feel like you don’t always find. Is that encapsulated formula, and that formula includes ceramides, as well as ch, ol and fatty acids, which actually help to increase the absorption of that camide by 80. So it’s got all of those ingredients that are really going to protect your skin and to help heal that skin barrier.
Pricing and Recommendation
Although I will say the pricing of this moisturizer is probably a little bit more expensive compared to the others that I have selected in this video. It is, although a fairly generous 80 mil size, so this one, I would recommend the most for normal to dry skin types.
J-Beauty Skincare Fav – T Sun Jung, Two Times Barrier Intensive Cream
The last Korean moisturizer I have today is the T Sun Jung, two times barrier intensive cream. This cream is a favorite among J-Beauty enthusiasts. Its rich texture and powerful formula make it a go-to product for those looking for intense hydration and skin protection.
Intense Hydration and Skin Protection
The T Sun Jung cream goes beyond mere moisturization. It is designed to strengthen and protect your skin’s barrier, keeping it safe from external aggressors. The cream’s powerful formula includes ingredients such as ceramides and plant extracts, which work together to nourish and hydrate your skin from within.
Perfect for All Skin Types
Whether you have dry, oily, or combination skin, the T Sun Jung intensive cream is suitable for all skin types. Its non-greasy texture absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving it feeling smooth and plump. You can use it both day and night, as its lightweight formula allows for easy layering with other skincare products.

Discovering a Reliable Basic Barrier: Protective Moisturizer
I discovered this moisturizer later on in the year, and I used it consistently when I was in Japan and traveling. Whenever I travel, I always try to choose a reliable basic barrier: protective moisturizer to take care of my skin. Traveling can often stress out the skin due to different schedules, lack of sleep, and a different diet. During my time in Japan, where the weather was still pretty warm, I wanted to use a moisturizer that provided enough moisture for my dry skin without feeling heavy or tacky. The heat in Japan tends to be more humid than what I’m used to in Australia, so finding a lightweight moisturizer was essential.
A Beautiful Texture for a Barrier: Protective Moisturizer
This moisturizer has a beautiful texture, especially for a barrier: protective moisturizer. Usually, these types of moisturizers are thicker and more tacky, which can be uncomfortable to wear on a warm day. However, this moisturizer has a lotion-like texture that is lightweight and easily absorbed by the skin. It feels protective and nourishing, providing the necessary hydration without weighing down the skin. The simplicity of its ingredients list is also worth noting.
A Moisturizer That Works for Dry Skin
For those with dry skin, finding a moisturizer that effectively hydrates without feeling heavy can be a challenge. This moisturizer, however, strikes the perfect balance. It provides enough moisture to combat dryness while remaining lightweight and non-greasy. The nourishing properties of this moisturizer keep the skin supple and healthy, even in harsh weather conditions or during travel.

L Ro Pro Sea Plast Balm B5 plus
Now let’s talk about a non-Asian beauty product – the L Ro Pro Sea Plast Balm B5 plus. This is a product that I relied on heavily when my skin was experiencing crazy flare-ups and irritation last year. It’s not surprising that so many people swear by this product because it truly delivers on its promises.
Although it’s called a balm, I actually used it as a moisturizer when my skin was irritated. However, now I mainly use it as a spot treatment for areas that are particularly irritated. Lately, I’ve been blowing my nose non-stop due to a cold, and the skin around my nose has been feeling tingly. I’ve been applying this product around my nose and gently dabbing it in, and it instantly soothes my skin.
It’s one of those products that you feel safe having around just in case your skin has a freak out. It’s a must-have for anyone dealing with sensitive or reactive skin.
Both the panthenol and matoid moisturizer and the L Ro Pro Sea Plast Balm B5 plus are top contenders for the best moisturizers of 2023. They provide effective hydration and soothing properties, making them favorites in K-Beauty and J-Beauty skincare routines.
