The Ordinary Skincare 🆕 Soothing & Barrier Support Serum Review, How to Use, Dupes/Alternatives

The Ordinary Skincare Soothing & Barrier Support Serum Review

Ike and Lincoln are not fans of winter, but Ike especially finds it challenging. However, with his furry coat to keep him warm, he manages to cope. Recently, he had a rough weekend, but thankfully, he is doing much better now. There was a moment when I thought it might be the end for him, but luckily, that was not the case. Moving on from Ike’s adventures, let’s dive into the review of The Ordinary’s newest product – the Soothing & Barrier Support Serum.

A Host of New Products from The Ordinary

Since Este Lauder took over The Ordinary, they have introduced several new products this year. While they haven’t done much with their subsidiary brand, NIOD, The Ordinary has been releasing a slew of new offerings. However, most of these new products have been rather lackluster, in my opinion. The cleansers, for instance, did not impress me. They do their job, but nothing stands out about them. They also released two new versions of their natural moisturizing factors, and one was disappointing while the other showed promise. Additionally, there was an eye serum that came out as well. Out of all these releases, the Soothing & Barrier Support Serum piqued my interest the most.

Hydration and Soothing Relief

I am always on the lookout for products that provide hydration and soothing properties, as I use a lot of active ingredients on my skin. The Ordinary’s Soothing & Barrier Support Serum promises to do just that. Infused with soothing and hydrating ingredients, this serum aims to reinforce the skin’s barrier while providing relief from irritation and dryness.

The texture of the serum is lightweight and absorbs quickly into the skin. It leaves no greasy residue, which is a plus for those with oily or combination skin. I found that it instantly calmed my skin and provided a boost of hydration. Whether used as a standalone product or incorporated into a skincare routine, the serum’s nourishing qualities make it a valuable addition.

How to Use the Soothing & Barrier Support Serum

Using The Ordinary’s Soothing & Barrier Support Serum is straightforward. After cleansing your face, apply a few drops of the serum to your fingertips. Gently massage it into your skin using upward motions until fully absorbed. Follow up with your usual moisturizer and sunscreen. For best results, incorporate this serum into your daily skincare routine both morning and night.

Dupes/Alternatives

If you’re looking for alternatives or dupes to The Ordinary’s Soothing & Barrier Support Serum, consider the following:

CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion PM: This lightweight and non-greasy lotion is formulated with essential ceramides to restore the skin’s natural barrier and provide long-lasting hydration.

La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5: This multipurpose balm soothes and repairs irritated, dry, and damaged skin. It contains nourishing ingredients like panthenol and shea butter.

Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Liquid: This highly moisturizing

Packaging

The Ordinary Skincare’s Soothing & Barrier Support Serum comes in an opaque glass dropper bottle. Personally, I have no issues with this type of packaging. However, I do find it a bit inconvenient when products have a seal that needs to be peeled off in order to access the ingredients or other important information.

Product Claims

According to the brand, this serum is a multi-active skin support that helps repair skin barrier damage and boost hydration. The research results claim that it repairs the skin barrier in just two hours, based on clinical testing on 23 people after one application. Now, personally, I don’t take studies with such a small sample size very seriously. Additionally, it seems common sense that any product with hydrating ingredients would moisturize and heal the skin within a couple of hours. So, while it’s good to have these claims, I would take them with a grain of salt.

Brand’s Strategy

It’s interesting to see brands releasing barrier repairing products while also offering acid peels. It’s a bit funny, isn’t it? Well, maybe not to everyone, but I find it amusing. It’s possible that my sense of humor is a bit weird, as I can find humor in things that others might not.

Personal Review

Now, let’s move on to my personal review of The Ordinary’s Soothing & Barrier Support Serum.

Performance

I must say, for someone with dry skin like me, this serum is a welcome addition to my skincare routine. In the winter, when temperatures drop and my skin becomes super dry, I always look for soothing and hydrating products. This serum does a great job in providing that much-needed hydration and relief to my skin.

Texture and Absorption

The serum has a lightweight texture that feels pleasant on the skin. It absorbs quickly without leaving any greasy or sticky residue behind. This makes it perfect for layering with other products in my skincare routine.

Efficacy

In terms of efficacy, I have noticed a significant improvement in the overall appearance and feel of my skin after using this serum. It has helped repair my skin barrier and has boosted hydration, leaving my skin looking plump and healthy.

How to Use

To use this serum, apply a few drops onto cleansed skin and gently massage it in. Follow with your moisturizer or other skincare products. I personally like to use it both in my morning and evening routines.

Dupes/Alternatives

If you’re looking for alternative products similar to The Ordinary’s Soothing & Barrier Support Serum, consider trying out CeraVe’s Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Serum or Paula’s Choice RESIST Barrier Repair Moisturizer. Both of these products are known for their soothing and hydrating properties and can be great alternatives to The Ordinary’s serum.

Soothing & Barrier Support Serum Packaging

I have a slight annoyance when it comes to the packaging of The Ordinary Skincare’s Soothing & Barrier Support Serum. When you purchase it from a store and there is no additional box, it is often found that people have peeled off the protective film. This can be frustrating as it feels like the product has already been tampered with before it reaches you. While I understand the importance of reducing waste, I still prefer skincare products to come with a proper box for added protection.

The Ingredients

Looking at the ingredients list, I was glad to see that this serum does not contain any denatured drying types of alcohol. It is also free from fragrance, which is a plus for those with sensitive skin. However, I did notice a slight mineral-like scent upon application, but it quickly disappears. Perhaps this scent is due to the presence of B12 in the formula. I left a comment to see if anyone else noticed this as well, but it may just be my personal experience.

Manufacturing Location

The Soothing & Barrier Support Serum is proudly made in Canada. This ensures that there are no concerns about the quality or safety of the product. Knowing its manufacturing location gives me peace of mind when using it.

Ease of Use

The serum itself has a vibrant pink color, reminiscent of Pepto Bismol. However, I strongly advise against consuming it as it is meant for topical use only. The pink hue is likely due to the B vitamins present in the formula. In my case, I specifically ordered a serum containing vitamin B12.

Overall Impressions

While I have some reservations about the packaging, The Ordinary Skincare’s Soothing & Barrier Support Serum delivers on its promises. Its formulation avoids drying alcohols and fragrance, making it suitable for sensitive skin. The slight mineral-like scent upon application may be a result of the B12 content. Overall, I found the serum easy to use and its manufacturing location in Canada adds to its appeal.

To fully enjoy the benefits of The Ordinary Skincare’s Soothing & Barrier Support Serum, it is important to understand how to incorporate it into your skincare routine effectively. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to use this serum:

The Ordinary Skincare Soothing & Barrier Support Serum Review

The Ordinary Skincare has recently introduced their new Soothing & Barrier Support Serum. In this article, we will review the product, discuss how to use it, and explore some possible dupes or alternatives.

Review

Upon application, I noticed that the serum sets to a slightly shiny finish. It is not overwhelmingly shiny, but rather gives a subtle glow to the skin. The scent of the serum is unique and difficult to describe. It reminds me of minerals or rocks, which may sound strange, but it adds an interesting element to the experience.

In terms of application, I use about a quarter of a dropper and gently pat it into my skin. I then follow up with my moisturizer or sleeping mask. The serum blends well with other products in my routine and does not cause any issues with pilling or clashing with other ingredients. It is quite easy to incorporate into your skincare routine. Additionally, if your skin is particularly dry, you can use a small amount of the serum before applying your moisturizer for added hydration.

How to Use

To use The Ordinary Soothing & Barrier Support Serum, start with a clean face. Apply a quarter dropper’s worth of the serum onto your fingers or directly onto your skin. Gently pat the serum into your face and neck, ensuring even distribution. Allow the serum to fully absorb before applying any additional skincare products or makeup. It is recommended to use the serum twice a day, in the morning and evening, for best results.

Dupes/Alternatives

If you’re looking for alternatives to The Ordinary Soothing & Barrier Support Serum, there are a few options to consider. One possible dupe is the niacinamide serum from Paula’s Choice. It contains the same anti-acne and brightening properties as The Ordinary serum, making it a suitable alternative. Another option is the Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum. While it may have a higher price point, it also focuses on hydrating and improving the skin barrier.

Overall, The Ordinary Skincare’s Soothing & Barrier Support Serum is a great addition to any skincare routine. Its unique properties and beneficial ingredients make it worth trying out. Remember to always patch test before incorporating any new product into your routine to ensure compatibility and minimize the risk of potential reactions.
