Introduction

Preparation for the Day

In the morning, I begin my routine by recording the events leading up to this moment. If you haven’t subscribed to this channel yet, I encourage you to do so. It’s important to prioritize your own well-being, so please subscribe and also like this video. Let me know what topics you would like to learn more about. Now, let’s dive into today’s topic: the morning skincare routine of dermatologist Dr. Shereene Idriss.

Gentle Cleansing

To start my morning skincare routine, I use a gentle cleanser. I squeeze a little bit of the cleanser onto my hand and apply it to my face. I massage it gently in circular motions, making sure to cover every area. This step only takes about five minutes. After rinsing off the cleanser, I notice that my hair appears oily due to the rosemary oil I applied the night before. I’ll wash my hair later, but for now, let’s move on to the next step.

Nourishing the Hair

Before I wash my hair, I like to apply coconut oil to the tips as a mask. This helps to replenish and moisturize my hair. I gently massage it in and then tie my hair up using a soft scrunchie.

Oral Hygiene

While the coconut oil sits on my hair, I take the opportunity to brush my teeth. Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential for overall health, including the health of the skin.

Refreshing the Face

Once in the shower, I rinse my face with water. At this point, it is still early in the morning, and the sun hasn’t fully risen yet, so I don’t worry about applying sunscreen just yet. I keep my skincare routine for later.

Meditation and Exercise

After rinsing my face, I take some time for meditation and a walk. These activities help to center my mind and prepare me for the day ahead. Meditation has numerous benefits for both mental and physical well-being, including improving skin health.

Unfortunate Wardrobe Mishap

Before heading out, I realize that I accidentally wore my pants backwards. It’s a humorous moment, considering I haven’t even applied sunscreen yet. Nonetheless, I find it ironic. Now, let’s move on to the final part of my morning routine.

Nutrient Boost

My partner hands me a smoothie that he insists I drink. Although it may not taste the best, it contains beneficial nutrients that contribute to my overall health. It’s all part of his obsession with Tim Ferriss and his health advice.

And there you have it – a brief glimpse into the morning skincare routine of dermatologist Dr. Shereene Idriss. Remember, taking care of your skin is an important part of self-care, and it only takes a few minutes each morning to give your skin the attention it deserves.

Dermatologist’s 5 Minute Simple & Effective Regimen | Dr. Shereene Idriss

As the morning sun rises, it’s time to start the day fresh and rejuvenated. Dr. Shereene Idriss, a renowned dermatologist, has shared her 5-minute simple and effective skincare regimen that will leave your skin glowing and radiant. Let’s dive into her expert advice and transform our morning routine.

A Relaxing Morning Walk

Before we embark on our skincare journey, let’s take a moment to focus on our mental and physical well-being. Closing our eyes, we take a deep breath in through the nose and exhale through the mouth. This calming exercise sets the tone for a peaceful and balanced start to the day.

Dr. Idriss shares her own experience of going for a morning walk in Central Park. She emphasizes the importance of staying active and maintaining a regular exercise routine to keep our bodies and minds youthful. Even a gentle 30-minute walk can make a significant difference.

The Importance of Skincare

Now, let’s delve into Dr. Idriss’s recommended skincare routine that takes only 5 minutes but yields effective results. She begins by addressing her under-eye puffiness, which she notes has significantly reduced. Her secret? A combination of rosemary oil and coconut oil. She applies this mixture twice a week and witnesses the magic of its tightening and invigorating effects.

The Shower Ritual

After her rejuvenating walk, Dr. Idriss proceeds to take a shower. She uses Christopher conditioner and their color shield shampoo, carefully choosing products that suit her hair type. Adding an extra touch of indulgence, she confesses to using a bar of soap she stole from a hotel. Its pleasing fragrance doubles as aromatherapy, enhancing the overall shower experience.

Finding Divine Scents

Dr. Idriss delights in sharing her recent purchase from France a shower gel that exudes a divine aroma. This luxurious addition to her skincare routine adds an element of indulgence and self-care to her everyday life.

To achieve healthy and radiant skin, it is essential to care for it daily. Dr. Idriss’s 5-minute skincare regimen offers a simple yet effective approach to maintaining the skin’s natural beauty. It’s time to prioritize self-care and embrace a skincare routine that will leave you feeling refreshed, revitalized, and ready to face the day ahead.

Shower Gels and Aromatherapy

I have a lot of shower gels because I’m into the scent – and I have aromatherapy – I love it. This one I bought in the UK and believe it or not, even though it is a hydrate for very dry skin and has the British Skin Foundation seal, it has the nicest scent in the world. I’m surprised that European Derm approved products have nice scents, whereas in the US they’re all fragrance-free. That’s what I use in the shower.

Morning Shower Routine

So, I’m going to shower now. Yep, just me. That’s all. My sister might join me later. Oh, your mohawk! I love it. Okay, okay, we are dressed. This shower gel gifted by Lola V came in very handy. That is my morning routine. As you can tell, my eyes are de-puffed. You can use this eye gel, and you don’t have to let it sit for as long as I do. Sometimes, I even just put it on and use the toilet brush. Multi-tasking! My teeth are clean, and now I can go outside and get my kids ready or whatever it is. By the time I’m in the shower, my eyes are de-puffed. But I figured I had more time today, so I usually do it before my morning walk.

The Importance of Keeping It Simple

The point and goal of a morning routine is to keep it very simple. I do not use a cleanser in the shower. You guys saw, I literally washed my face first with water before I even wash my hair. Then, I go ahead and wash my hair, wash my body, and get out. Most people do not need a cleanser in the morning unless you’re really on the oily side.

So, there you have it. Dr. Shereene Idriss’ 5-minute simple and effective morning skincare routine. It’s all about simplicity and focusing on what your skin truly needs. Now you can take these tips and incorporate them into your own skincare routine for a healthy and radiant complexion.

Cleansing – The Importance of Balance

When it comes to skincare, it’s important to find a balance. Over-cleansing can actually do more harm than good. By stripping away the natural oils on your face, you’re sending a signal to your skin to produce even more oils, ultimately leaving you with an oilier complexion. It’s crucial to strike the right balance in your morning skincare routine to promote healthy skin.

Grooming: The First Step

Before diving into my skincare routine, I always start with grooming my eyebrows. As someone who doesn’t naturally have great brows, I fill them in lightly to achieve a more defined look. However, the key to natural-looking brows lies in brushing them thoroughly. Brushing helps them blend seamlessly with my face and creates a polished appearance.

A Simple Trick – Brow Gel

One of my recent discoveries is a dual-sided eyebrow gel, which serves as a transparent mascara for my brows. This product not only provides a lasting hold, but it also comes with two brushes. This way, when one side becomes worn out, I can simply switch to the other side and continue grooming. It’s a time-saving and efficient tool to add to your makeup kit.

The Skincare Routine

Once my eyebrows are perfectly groomed, I move on to my morning skincare routine. Start by cleansing your face using a gentle cleanser suitable for your skin type. Massage it in circular motions for a minute or two, then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Cleansing removes impurities and prepares your skin for the next steps.

The next important step is applying a lightweight moisturizer with SPF. This helps protect your skin from harmful UV rays and also provides hydration. Gently massage the moisturizer onto your face using upward strokes. Allow it to absorb for a few minutes before moving on to the next step.

Finally, don’t forget to apply sunscreen. This is an essential step in any skincare routine, as it protects your skin from both UVA and UVB rays. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and apply it generously all over your face and neck. Reapply sunscreen every two hours, especially if you’re going to be exposed to the sun for an extended period.

A Few Extra Tips

When it comes to makeup, less is more. If you want your skincare routine to shine through, opt for a minimal makeup look. A light foundation or tinted moisturizer, a swipe of mascara, and a touch of lip color can go a long way in enhancing your natural beauty.

Remember, these skincare tips are based on my personal experience. While I am not a makeup artist, I have learned what works best for me over the years. Feel free to adapt and experiment to find what suits you and your skin the most. Your skincare routine should be a reflection of your unique needs and preferences.

The Importance of a Morning Skincare Routine

A morning skincare routine is essential for maintaining healthy and radiant skin throughout the day. It helps to cleanse, nourish, and protect the skin from various environmental factors, such as UV rays and pollution. Dr. Shereene Idriss, a renowned dermatologist, has developed a simple and effective regimen that takes only five minutes to complete.

The 5-Minute Routine

Dr. Shereene Idriss emphasizes that skincare should be tailored to address individual concerns. However, there are some basic steps that can be followed by everyone to achieve great results.

Step 1: Antioxidant Serum

An antioxidant serum is a must-have in any morning skincare routine. It provides protection against free radicals, which are harmful molecules that can damage the skin. Depending on the specific needs of your skin, Dr. Idriss recommends using a light moisturizer if the weather is dry or humid. The choice of product will depend on the individual.

Step 2: Sunscreen

Sunscreen is a non-negotiable step in any skincare routine. Applying sunscreen daily helps prevent sun damage, premature aging, and reduces the risk of skin cancer. Dr. Idriss stresses the importance of wearing sunscreen even if you do not experience immediate redness or sunburn. Consistency is key to maintaining healthy skin.

Focus on Discoloration

Dr. Idriss openly discusses her battle with discoloration, despite appearing “pretty even” on the surface. To combat this concern, she recommends using the Hyper Fade Trio, a system she developed to target discoloration and dark spots. This routine has become the basis of her skincare regimen since August 2021.

Adding Variety

While Dr. Idriss is loyal to her own brand and uses the Hyper Fade Trio daily, she also enjoys experimenting with other brands. Constantly testing out new products allows her to stay updated on the latest advancements in skincare. This willingness to explore gives her a well-rounded perspective on what works best for different individuals.

Don’t Forget the Neck and Chest

Dr. Idriss admits that she sometimes forgets to apply skincare products to her neck and chest, but she reminds her audience not to neglect these areas. The skin on the neck and chest is delicate and prone to aging. Therefore, it is crucial to extend your skincare routine beyond just the face.

Dr. Shereene Idriss advocates for a five-minute morning skincare routine that is simple yet effective. By incorporating an antioxidant serum, sunscreen, and addressing specific concerns like discoloration, individuals can achieve healthy and glowing skin. Remember to customize your routine based on your specific needs and feel free to explore different brands to find the best products for you.

The Hyper Serum: Ultimate Hydration and Brightening

As the air gets drier, it’s essential to give your skin the hydration it needs. Dr. Shereene Idriss recommends using the hyper serum to combat the effects of dehydration. This serum is packed with powerful ingredients such as kojic acid, arbutin, licorice root, and niacinamide. These ingredients work together to brighten the skin and reduce redness.

One standout ingredient in the hyper serum is dilucosalgalic acid, which specifically targets redness. Dr. Idriss explains that she personally experiences redness in certain areas of her face, even after undergoing laser treatments. The dilucosalgalic acid in the hyper serum helps to counteract this redness, especially during seasonal changes.

The Active Seal: Moisturization and Vitamin C Protection

Following the hyper serum, Dr. Idriss recommends using the active seal, which acts as a moisturizer. This product is particularly intriguing because it contains vitamin C. However, Dr. Idriss reveals that she adjusts her morning skincare routine based on the humidity levels.

On days with high humidity, Dr. Idriss skips the serum and opts to use only the moisturizer under her sunscreen. This allows her to still reap the protective benefits of vitamin C. The rationale behind this adjustment is that too much hydration can be detrimental to the skin in humid conditions. Dr. Idriss advises that just half a pump of the active seal is sufficient for the face, and a small amount should be applied to the neck as well.

Less is More: The Importance of Moderation

Dr. Idriss emphasizes the importance of moderation when it comes to skincare products. The hyper serum and active seal are both loaded with powerful actives, so a little goes a long way. Using too much product can overwhelm the skin and disrupt its natural balance.

In just five minutes, Dr. Idriss’s simple and effective skincare regimen provides the necessary hydration, brightening, and protection for the skin. By understanding the specific needs of her own skin and adjusting her routine accordingly, she ensures that her skin stays healthy and radiant.

Understanding Product Actives and Pilling

So you have to understand that when you have products that have actives in them and it’s not a basic moisturizer, things can pill, because the actives themselves are different. Types of powders that are emulsified in their base are mixed into their base and things can pill. So the reason I do it in this order is to allow for things to sit and settle.

The Importance of Sunscreen

Well, usually you go in with the sunscreen after I dry my hair. Normally I will do my skincare. Go get dressed, come back and put my sunscreen and do my makeup, but because I’m drying my hair, now you guys are gonna see me put my sunscreen after drying my hair and then obviously before my makeup.

Coconut Oil for Hair

“What’s nuts. What five! Why did you put in your hair that makes it so good yeah put some coconut in my hair? Can I say that’s not this coconut I’ll put some in your hair before you wash your hair. What mathematics, mathematics that is it oops?”

The Trouble with Oil Cleansers

“I forgot to put my sunscreen she distracted me by the way. This is why I don’t like oil cleansers. I was testing out another one last night, just to kind of see whenever I use an oil cleanser and obviously I double cleanse I break out so they’re just not for me. I have not found the one I like, anyway.”

Struggling with Hair Drying

“Once the skincare is done and the hair is dry and I have always struggled drying my hair I’m just not good at it.”

Morning Skincare Routine: Dermatologist’s 5 Minute Simple & Effective Regimen

Introduction to the Routine

Dr. Shereene Idriss, a renowned dermatologist, shares her simple and effective morning skincare routine. In this regimen, she focuses on using products that provide both sun protection and address specific skin concerns.

The Sunscreen Choice

Dr. Idriss begins her routine by applying a sunscreen called Century Purple Protector with SPF 40. This particular sunscreen is unique as it combines both mineral and chemical filters. Dr. Idriss is curious to see if it will irritate her eyes, given the presence of certain chemicals. Additionally, she highlights that this sunscreen is derived from onion bulb extract, which is known to help with surgical scars and possesses antibacterial and antifungal properties.

Purple and Hyperpigmentation

What’s interesting about the Century Purple Protector is its purple hue, which helps neutralize discoloration and hyperpigmentation. Dr. Idriss had previously used purple shades for her makeup to counteract discoloration, and she appreciates that this sunscreen aligns with that concept. By using a purple-tinted product, she hopes to address any potential hyperpigmentation issues caused by clogged pores from the oil cleanser.

Application Technique

To apply the sunscreen, Dr. Idriss uses two full fingers’ worth of product, ensuring thorough coverage. The purple color allows her to see where she has applied it, offering a useful visual indicator. As she blends the sunscreen into her skin, she notes that it seamlessly disappears and leaves a transparent finish.

A Tip for Using Tinted Sunscreens

When using tinted sunscreens like the Laura Mercier’s Tinted SPF, Dr. Idriss suggests a slightly different application technique to avoid any pilling or texture issues. Instead of rubbing it in, she gently taps the product onto her skin, ensuring that the color blends evenly. This technique helps maintain the integrity of the other products layered beneath the sunscreen, especially those with active ingredients.

Sunscreen: The First Step for Healthy Skin

When it comes to morning skincare, there is one essential step that should never be skipped: sunscreen. Dr. Shereene Idriss, a renowned dermatologist, emphasizes the importance of using sunscreen every day to protect our skin from harmful UV rays. In her latest video, she shares her five-minute simple and effective skincare regimen, starting with sunscreen.

Dr. Idriss mentions that she is trying a new sunscreen today and is curious to see how it performs throughout the day. She applies it smoothly, noting that it is sheer and clear, perfect for daily use. Once the sunscreen is applied, she moves on to the next step in her morning routine.

Makeup Application: A Quick and Easy Process

With her skin protected, Dr. Idriss moves on to applying her makeup. She quickly grabs her concealer, lightly dabbing it on specific areas to achieve a flawless complexion. She mentions using the Laura Mercier foundation to double up on coverage, ensuring an even skin tone.

Paying attention to detail, Dr. Idriss also applies a bit of foundation over her eyebrows to blend them in seamlessly. This simple step prevents them from looking out of place against her makeup. The dermatologist’s expertise shines through as she effortlessly navigates her makeup routine.

Efficient Use of Products

Dr. Idriss mentions that she likes to use her products efficiently to avoid waste. She points out which products she uses the most and makes an effort to use the ones she hasn’t utilized as much. This conscious approach ensures that she maximizes the usage of her beauty products without unnecessary waste.

One product that she specifically appreciates is a gift she received from Tower 28. It has become a staple in her routine, and she explains how she lightly applies it to the back of a sponge. Dr. Idriss mentions that she has always had a weaker jawline and uses the product strategically to enhance its appearance.

A Playful Approach to Eyeshadow

Dr. Idriss admits that she is not an expert when it comes to applying eyeshadow. She embraces experimentation, acknowledging that she is unsure of what she is doing. Her brushes are a mix of colors, showing her willingness to explore different shades and techniques.

Despite her uncertainty, Dr. Idriss confidently moves forward, determined to figure it out as she goes along. Her playful attitude and willingness to learn from her own experiences make her approachable and relatable to viewers.

Upgrade to Brushes

Brushes have become my new go-to tool for applying makeup in the morning. With a brush in hand, I can effortlessly apply my chosen color without any complications. I have to admit, it’s an upgrade from my usual routine of using my fingers. Yes, I used to apply makeup with just my fingers, but now I’ve discovered the wonders of brushes.

Kat Von D Eyeliner

One of my reliable beauty secrets is using Kat Von D’s eyeliner. This brand has proven to be a game-changer for me. The eyeliner gives me the perfect defined look, enhancing my eyes and making them pop. It’s a decent product that I highly recommend for anyone looking for an eyeliner that delivers stunning results.

Mascara: The Ultimate Game Changer

If there’s one product that can completely transform your face, it’s mascara. With just a few swipes, you can instantly make your lashes look longer, fuller, and more voluminous. Mascara has always been my go-to when I want to make a statement without saying a word. It’s the ultimate game-changer for achieving a captivating look.

A Simple Skincare Approach

When it comes to skincare, I believe in keeping things simple. A targeted and efficient skincare routine is key to maintaining healthy and radiant skin. Contrary to popular belief, an elaborate 12-step skincare routine is not always necessary. Instead, focus on using products that are specifically tailored to your skin’s needs.

Makeup, What Did I Do?

I must admit, I sometimes find myself in a state of perplexity when it comes to my makeup choices. I experiment, come up with new looks, and sometimes can’t even remember what I put on my face that morning. But hey, that’s the fun of it, right? The important thing is that you should enjoy the process of applying makeup and not take it too seriously.

I hope you found my morning skincare routine and makeup choices intriguing. The key takeaway from this experience is that your skincare routine should be simple and targeted.
