The Trendy Medicube Age-R Device
Booster H so lets talk about it. I also tried their collagen jelly along with this device. What exactly is going on with this device? I have seen it everywhere. I mean its all over Tik Tok. You guys have been asking about it: cuz youve been seeing the ads non. Stop I mean they must have a huge advertising budget, because I cannot escape this thing. Haley Bieber allegedly uses it so whats the deal well its a device that is intended to be used to enhance the penetration of your skin care products.
Electroporation Technology
So in theory, you get better results from them. You get more hydrated glowy, smooth glass skin and how it works or how how it claims to work is through something called electroporation now raise your hand in the comments. If youve ever worked in a lab, you know exactly the deal with electroporation its basically a high voltage that creates little pores in lipid membranes, whether it be cells, bacteria or a big structure like the waxy stratum corneum.
The Science Behind It
These little holes are temporary but allows you to get stuff in so in you know, labs and stuff. We use a technique of electroporation of like bacteria to get them to take up DNA and stuff so that we can make them Express genes. We want them to um thats, a very rudimentary explanation, but the idea here is that it will enhance penetration of the stuff that youre putting on your skin, which you know weve talked about this before, but the the thing about your skin and and why it is So such a vital structure is it keeps stuff from penetrating into your body into your bloodstream, its a barrier thats, what its designed to do keep stuff out and thats great when that fails, problems arise if, if you have a weakened Skin Barrier, your Skins more vulnerable To irritation and skin infections, but when we want to treat the skin either for cosmetic reasons or to deliver medications to treat skin conditions, we have to engineer ways to get ingredients medications across that waxy barrier.
Enhancing Penetration
Some ingredients are easier to get in than others. Certain ingredients in your skin care can allow for better absorption of other skincare ingredients. For example, hyaluronic acid helps enhance penetration of ingredients. Using an exfoliant allows for better penetration. Retinol, in the long term, can allow for better penetration of other things, because these ingredients help improve the smoothness of the top layer, ultimately allowing better penetration.

The Medicube Age-R device uses electroporation to enhance penetration. Instead of poking holes with something sharp like micro-needling, it creates temporary pores so that the product can sink into the skin. The device delivers high voltage pulses to create temporary enhancement of penetration of ingredients on the skin.
Device Settings
The device has five different settings. To use it, you first charge up the device with a USB. When you press the button, it announces the level, starting from one. You can press the button again to increase the level, up to a maximum of five.
How It Works
The way it’s used is that after you wash your face, you apply your skin care products, and then you basically run this device over your skin. In theory, the products on your skin are going to have better penetration. There are a few techniques that you can use. You can just move it forward or you can do like a circular motion or you can just hold it in one spot for a few moments. In theory, that allows for spot-focused, enhanced penetration and after you use it, you just wipe off the head with a towel to remove any product residue.
Warnings
Now, they do warn that if you are using a retinoid, that you don’t want to apply your retinoid and then use this device because the enhanced penetration may be too irritating with a retinoid or a retinol. Even at the lowest setting, it can be a little uncomfortable as I took it over certain landmarks on the face.
Uncomfortable Sensations
I don’t know if it was just kind of stimulating a nerve or whatever, but you could get a little bit of muscle spasming. I don’t know if you guys can see it here, but you can see how my under-eye is twitching when I have it over by my cheek. Then when I use this on my forehead, I really felt some interesting sensations. Almost felt like my hair is being pulled. Like somebody was pulling my hair from underneath my scalp.
A Bizarre Sensation
It was kind of a bizarre sensation. If you’ve ever used the new face device, you know how it can kind of feel a little tingly. The feeling that I got with this little kind of tingles, not painful, but an unusual feeling. You definitely feel it and if it goes over certain landmarks on your face, it can cause, in my experience, some twitching of neighboring muscle groups.
Different Levels of Intensity
They specify don’t go higher than level one, the lowest setting, around delicate areas like your eye, around your nose, and around your mouth. Not only did I try it on my face, but I also tried it on my upper thighs because I thought, why not? The skin on the thighs is a lot thicker, but I still felt that pulling tingling sensation at all of the settings.
Tingling Sensation
Speaking of the new face, if you’ll recall back from my video reviewing the new face, I always experienced with that a temporary kind of lifted, tightening effect. With the new face, that effect fades later on throughout the day. I kind of got the same thing with this. Did it work for me in terms of getting better penetration of the moisturizers and ingredients? It’s hard to say. I really did not see much of a difference between using this and not using it.
No Irritation or Unusual Side Effects
I didn’t experience any irritation, redness, or discomfort with the Medicube Age-R device aside from that odd sensation while using it. However, I really didn’t experience any unusual side effects of irritation, peeling, or dryness.
No Noticeable Wow Factor
I don’t use the device every single day, but I have used it numerous times. I’ve never really gotten any sort of noticeable “wow” effect on my skin, although it does feel super hydrated and plump. In comparison to just using the moisturizer, the results are not very significant.
Products Used with the Device
I’ve tried using the Medicube Age-R device with different products. I’ve used it with a CED healthy renew face serum that I use in the morning, as well as with the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Cream. However, I didn’t notice any dramatic differences in results.
Application Techniques and Device Features
I’ve experimented with different application techniques, such as holding the device on a spot for a few minutes or using circular motions. However, I didn’t notice any significant improvement based on these methods.
The Medicube Age-R device is lightweight and easy to maneuver. It notifies you when a minute has passed, with a maximum usage time of 10 minutes. However, one drawback is that it’s difficult to switch between different intensity levels. If you find the setting too high, you have to remove the device from your skin and start again at a lower setting, which can be inconvenient.
The Experience
Upon trying the Medicube Age-R device, I found that it was indeed easy to use, as described. The process, however, felt a bit laborious due to the small size of the device head. While it may be user-friendly, I couldn’t shake the feeling that it wasn’t truly making a significant impact on my skin.
Unimpressed Results
After multiple uses, I failed to notice any substantial difference in the appearance or texture of my skin. This lack of visible results left me feeling skeptical about the device’s effectiveness and its claims.

Medicube cautions against using the device if your skin is red and tingling from excessive tanning, which makes sense due to the potential for increased vulnerability. While the Medicube Age-R device may be easy to use, my personal experience and the lack of significant outcomes have left me with doubts about its efficacy. It is essential to consider your skin type and any underlying medical conditions before jumping on the bandwagon of this skincare trend.
Who Should Avoid Using the Medicube Age-R Device?
Anyone who is using a mounted electronic medical device, such as an ECG device, anyone who is using a steroid type hormone drug for a long time, or anyone with skin atrophy should steer clear of the Medicube Age-R device. The device may not be suitable for individuals with liver function disorders, rosacea, or those receiving outpatient treatment for acne.
Skin Conditions to Consider
If you have active acne dermatitis, contact dermatitis, or atopic dermatitis, it’s best to avoid using the Medicube Age-R device. These conditions could potentially worsen with the use of the device, as it may temporarily aggravate the skin barrier.
Areas of the Body to Avoid
Individuals with skin issues in areas such as freckles accompanied by itchiness, freckles caused by physical stimulation, or areas containing metals, plastics, silicone, etc., should also refrain from using the device. Moreover, if you have hemophilia, heart disease, acute diseases, hemorrhagic areas, malignant tumors, fracture areas, infectious diseases, or issues specific to the eyelid or skull areas, it’s best to avoid using the device.
Special Populations to Consider
Pregnant women, lactating women, children, and the elderly should also avoid using the Medicube Age-R device. Since the device is not intended for therapeutic purposes and may not be suitable for individuals with underlying skin problems, it’s crucial to consider these factors before trying out the device.
The Collagen Jelly Cream
The collagen jelly cream is interesting. It’s really sticky and does not absorb immediately at all. It stays sticky. It has good ingredients like niacinamide, hydrolyzed collagen which is a humectant, tros, and cyano cobalamin vitamin B12 which research shows is helpful for itch. The cream has a pinkish color probably due to the vitamin B12. It does have a fragrance, but it’s not too strong and didn’t give me a headache.
Using the Device
Using the electroporation device along with the sticky collagen jelly cream didn’t impress me. The device adds extra time to your skincare routine without providing noticeable benefits. The jelly cream itself, whether used with or without the device, didn’t show a significant difference in my skin. It’s tacky and didn’t seem amazing as a moisturizer.
Potential Concerns
Since the collagen jelly cream contains fragrance, it may pose a risk for those with sensitive skin or allergies. Fragrance is a common allergen in skincare products and can be irritating. Using a device like electroporation to drive these fragrance ingredients further into the skin might not be ideal, especially if the product doesn’t deliver significant results.
Concerns About Electroporation for Dermal Delivery
To my skincare routine, without more research on electroporation for enhancing D transdermal delivery, I have reservations about this for a few reasons. Okay, so, first of all, yes, you are creating those little microchannels to allow better penetration, but it can come with increased transepidermal water loss. More dryness, possibly more irritation as a result of just more water loss from the skin.
Skincare Products Compatibility
If you have atopic dermatitis, this could be even more of an issue for you. If you have acne even more of an issue for you um, and I also have reservations because they’re kind of vague about what skincare products you can use with this and most brands are not testing their products in this way. So what ingredients are safe to use with this device? What ingredients are not? We really don’t have a clear answer to that.
Potential Effects on Hyperpigmentation
You know some ingredients are working well in your stratum corneum to improve water content. Do they really need to be driven in? Are you asking for more problems doing that um, I have reservations if you have hyperpigmentation, which a lot of people use this device in an effort to improve the look of dark spots and claim that it’s worked wonders. But if you’re using a product with it enhancing penetration in theory of certain ingredients, that increases the likelihood that they become irritating and remember with hyperpigmentation anything that worsens irritation can worsen the hyperpigmentation.
Potential for Adverse Reactions
I also worry about the potential for this to reactivate herpes. Give you a cold sore so, if you’re prone to cold sores? Ah, I would be real careful with this.
Questionable Construction
Lastly, the other thing I will say is the device itself, the construction, the materials kind of is a little cheap like when I got it. I was like really, I don’t know what I was expecting, but it feels like something that a kid would play around with like a CH, a child’s toy. It feels really junky like the material is not super good quality. I have no idea how long it will last.
Lack of Results
My last point is this – it is not cheap, it’s like a couple hundred dollars. I paid over 200 for this thing and I feel like I definitely did not get my money’s worth. I’m skeptical regarding if it actually enhances penetration, I didn’t see any noticeable change. All the times that I’ve used it, I didn’t really see a noticeable difference.
Possible Skin Issues
I didn’t develop any sort of adverse effect from it. I do have concerns that it may end up being drying for some people and or worsen irritation, and skin problems like hyperpigmentation.
Doubts about Celebrity Endorsement
The quality of the device is lacking as far as the construction of the materials. I kind of think it’s sort of one of those things that gets hyped up. People buy – and maybe they like it in the beginning, but I think it’s one of those things that’s going to end up in a lot of people’s drawers and also I’m not really buying that Haley Bieber actually uses this thing.
Initial Thoughts
Maybe she does but yeah. I really don’t think it’s worth it and the jelly cream, while it wasn’t horrible, it also wasn’t fantastic.
Price Drop on Jelly Cream
I saw on their website. They dropped the price of the jelly cream, the jelly it’s around 24 bucks. Now I want to say, but even that seems a little steep for what it is, because it just doesn’t really leave the skin feeling super moisturized, even when paired with their Jazzy device.
