I have always been one of those individuals who enjoyed getting their nails done from a young age. Even at 16, I couldn’t resist the allure of beautiful nails. However, there are times when I feel the need to let my nails breathe and take a break from professional manicures. During those periods, press-on nails become my go-to alternative. I have tried several brands, but my favorite press-on nails from 2023 are the ones that lasted under a tener two weeks. The application process is incredibly simple, and removing them is a breeze. All it takes is soaking them in acetone, and they come off effortlessly. These press-on nails have made my life so much easier.
K Ali Perfume
In 2023, I stumbled upon a brand called K Ali, which offers an array of beautifully scented perfumes. Out of all the fragrances I tried, one stood out as my absolute favorite. The perfume was aptly named “My Milkshake,” and it truly brought all the boys to the yard, as the saying goes. The scent of this fragrance is truly unique and unlike anything I have ever come across before. It has a certain quality that leaves a lasting impression. Whenever I wear it, I feel confident and alluring. K Ali’s My Milkshake perfume was a delightful discovery in 2023.
The Worst Beauty Products
While 2023 had its fair share of fantastic beauty products, there were also some disappointments. Unfortunately, not every product lives up to its claims or meets expectations. Among the worst beauty products I encountered in 2023 were the XYZ Mascara and the ABC Foundation.
XYZ Mascara
The XYZ Mascara promised to deliver voluminous and lengthened lashes, but it fell short of expectations. Despite multiple coats and careful application, the mascara failed to provide the desired effect. It clumped and left my lashes looking heavy and unnatural. It was a frustrating experience, as I had high hopes for this particular product.
ABC Foundation
Similarly, the ABC Foundation proved to be a letdown. It claimed to offer full coverage and a flawless finish, but it simply didn’t deliver. The foundation appeared patchy and uneven on my skin, and it didn’t last throughout the day. Despite trying different techniques and application methods, I couldn’t achieve the desired results with this foundation.

I haven’t smelled anything that smells like this before and if you’re someone that hasn’t tried any of their perfumes before you can always opt for the 10. Mil and have a little tester. Then you can obviously commit to getting a bigger size if you’re someone that is team lightweight when it comes to makeup and you do not like a heavy Foundation while that feels like a moisturizer get this Denessa Myx bluring Bal. This deserves Awards after Awards after Awards.
Garnier Anti D Dark Spot and Anti Pollution Super UV SPF 50
I’ve got an in-depth review coming on this in the next week, or so I want to say November of 2023 very late. I fell in love with this and the amazing thing about this is you only need a little to go a long way. So, of course, when it comes to everything you know, I have my Staples. However, in 2023, I find myself reaching out for this SPF a lot and it’s the Garnier Anti D Dark Spot and Anti Pollution Super UV SPF 50. As a black dark-skinned person, you know we do not have the privilege of picking up any SPF out there and slapping it all over your face. Chances are, you could end up turning blue. One, this is Affordable. Two, if you just don’t like an oily sunscreen, you’ll like this one.

So for my body, I was reaching out for this one by Malibu. It is really moisturizing and I like the way it smells. They have SPF 50 and SPF 30.
The Best Liquid Blush of 2023
In the year 2023, liquid blushes took the beauty world by storm. As someone who keeps up with Tik Tok trends, I couldn’t resist jumping on the bandwagon. I have tried numerous bottles of liquid blushes, and one that stood out to me was the one I am wearing today. It comes in a delightful shade of orange, which works perfectly for my dark skin tone. The best part? It lasts a long time, so a small dot of product goes a long way.
The Trendy Pimple Stickers
2023 also brought about the era of pimple stickers. Many brands came out with their own versions of these stickers, and I had the opportunity to try quite a few of them. My go-to brand was Pixie, particularly their clarity blemish sticker. Not only did it effectively cover and protect my pimples, but it also gave me a sense of reassurance. I would apply it after my skincare routine in the morning and again at night, and it really helped in reducing the appearance of my blemishes.
Disappointing Empties
While there were some amazing beauty products in 2023, there were also a few disappointments. One product that didn’t live up to its hype was an SPF product that promised great coverage. Unfortunately, it fell short on my medium-darker skin tone. It didn’t provide enough sun protection, leaving me feeling exposed and dissatisfied. It’s always disheartening when a product doesn’t deliver on its promises.
A Missed Favorite
2023 also introduced me to a spot relief cream by Mirage, which quickly became my go-to for tackling annoying pimples. However, as the year went on, I discovered an alternative that I found to be even better. Many brands released their own version of pimple stickers, and while the Mirage spot relief cream was effective, the Pixie clarity blemish sticker stole the spotlight. It provided the same spot relief but with added convenience and ease of use.

One of the standout products of 2023 is the Algenist Triple Eye Renew Balm. This eye cream is thick and long-lasting, providing incredible results. Unlike other gimmicky products on the market, this one actually delivers.
Another top contender is the Too Faced concealer. This has been a staple for many, including myself, for a long time. However, in 2023, a new favorite emerged – the Fenty Beauty Bright Fix in the shade Toffee. As the trend leans towards natural and softer makeup looks, this concealer feels like a creamy dream while still providing excellent coverage.

While many products have impressed in 2023, there are a few that fell short. One disappointing product is the Estee Laer bright under eye concealer. Although it has been my go-to for a while, it just didn’t perform as well as expected this year.
However, the biggest letdown of 2023 has to be the Huda Beauty Faux Filter concealer. Despite its promising name, it failed to live up to expectations. It’s always disheartening when a product with so much potential turns out to be a disappointment.

This primer, aptly named “The Mattifier” by Revolution, has a silicon-like texture. Although it feels strange, almost like smearing Vaseline on my face, the end result is worth it. My skin feels incredibly smooth, almost as if it has transformed into velvet. When combined with the blurring balm, the effect is even more astounding.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel – Kind to Thin Brows
Even though I don’t have thick eyebrows, I still like to use a brow gel to ensure the hairs stay in place before I fill them in. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel has become my go-to product for my thin brows in 2023. Anastasia Beverly Hills is one of the original brands known for their exceptional brow products, and this gel does not disappoint. I simply brush my brow hairs in the desired direction, comb them upward, and leave the gel on for about 2 to 5 minutes. The results are astonishingmy brows stay put throughout the day.
Affordable Alternative to Mac’s Spiked Eyebrow Pencil
For those who prefer filling in their brows with an eyebrow pencil, allow me to introduce the affordable alternative to Mac’s Spiked Eyebrow Pencil. The MUA Brow Define Micro Precision Eyebrow Pencil is a fraction of the price, making it an excellent choice for those on a budget. The pencil is similar to its more expensive counterpart and comes in a convenient design. For those with darker skin tones, this pencil is a must-have. It offers the same results as the Mac product at a significantly lower cost.

While it may not be the most moisturizing moisturizer on the market, it leaves my skin feeling soft and supple. I often mix it with Vaseline Gel for added hydration. If you’re looking for a great moisturizer, I highly recommend trying the Loan Cream Ultra Rich Body Cream.
Time Filler 5 XP Moisturizer
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized the importance of packing in moisture, especially at night. The Time Filler 5 XP moisturizer has become a staple in my skincare routine. A little goes a long way, and despite its thickness, my skin appreciates and loves it. It may be on the pricier side, but it’s definitely worth the investment.

When it comes to removing my makeup, I have two favorite products: myel water and Fenty Skin Melt Away. I like to start with the myel water, as it effectively removes the initial layer of makeup. Then, I follow up with the Fenty Skin Melt Away, which effortlessly melts away any remaining product. Both of these products leave my skin feeling clean and refreshed.

A highly innovative product that deserves recognition is the Estee La advanced night cleansing bar. This unique bar releases the product at the bottom when pressed, allowing a small amount to effectively melt away your makeup. It’s a great option for those who dislike dipping their hands into product containers.

While the Estee La advanced night cleansing bar is a fantastic product, there are definitely cheaper alternatives available. One of my personal favorites is a product I discovered during a “get ready with me” session. It works just as well and comes at a more affordable price point.

In 2023, one of the standout beauty products was the Charlotte Tilbury setting spray. This product has received endless praise and for good reason. On the other hand, not all beauty products in 2023 lived up to expectations. One product that was particularly disappointing was the Melt-Off Makeup Remover. Despite the claims of easily removing makeup, this product fell short. It required a lot of effort and didn’t effectively melt off the makeup as promised. It’s safe to say that this product did not live up to the hype.

Since the lockdown, I haven’t found myself reaching for colorful eye shadows. Instead, I have been relying on my bronzers or this Love Glam palette. The Browns in this palette, specifically the three at the bottom, have become my go-to shades. When I want to add some depth, I’ll use the darker shades. I have gotten so comfortable with these neutral tones that I might even venture into brighter colors in 2024. It’s almost as if I have forgotten what colors are when it comes to eye shadows.
Boran Double Lotion Toner: My Go-To in 2023
When it comes to toners, my go-to in 2023 has been the Boran Double Lotion. I have gone through so many bottles of this toner because it truly is a staple in my skincare routine. However, there are times when my skin is not looking its best, and on those days, I like to opt for toners that have a bit more to them. In those instances, I tend to reach for either the one by Pixie or the one by Ren. They provide that extra something to tackle any texture issues.
LOreal Vital Lift 5 Glycolic Acid Peeling Toner: A Surprisingly Good Alternative
In 2023, I discovered a cheaper alternative to my usual toners – the LOreal Vital Lift 5 Glycolic Acid Peeling Toner. Despite its intimidating name, this toner did not actually peel my skin. However, on days when I needed an extra boost to tackle texture, this toner did the job alongside my other skincare products. I use it occasionally at night time to give my skin that extra oomph.

Another product that disappointed me was the nail polish I used. As you can see, my nails look horrible. The culprit behind this is the nail polish that I had to repurchase because my previous one had run out.

It seems like a missed opportunity for K-Le to create a fragrance that would appeal to a wider range of consumers.

Unfortunately, not all beauty products of 2023 have met our expectations. One of the worst products I have come across is the Soothing Tea Cleansing Gel from Then I Met You. The scent of licorice in this cleanser is overwhelming and unpleasant. Every time I opened the bottle, it made me feel nauseous. It’s a shame because I had high hopes for this brand, especially after enjoying their Melting Bom. However, the smell of this cleanser is a dealbreaker for me.
Another disappointing product in 2023 was the AEN SPF 50 sunscreen. While it claims to provide sun protection for all skin tones, it ended up turning my skin blue upon application. This was not only bizarre but also a nightmare for me. It’s important to choose products that cater to your specific needs and skin type, and unfortunately, this sunscreen did not deliver on its promises.
